# How to assign open shifts to a new employee

## Learn how to quickly reassign shifts when an employee leaves and a new one starts.

### When an employee leaves

When you terminate an employee in Frontliners, you have the option to **transfer all their future shifts** to another employee right away. This is the easiest method.

### If shifts are already open

If the employee has already left and their shifts are showing as open (unassigned), you can use the **magic wand** to quickly assign them:

1. Go to **Scheduling** in the menu.
2. Find the new employee in the schedule.
3. Hover your mouse over the employee's name in the **summary column**.
4. Click **“Assign shifts”** (the magic wand icon).
5. Click on each open shift you want to assign to this employee.
6. The shifts are now assigned — no further steps needed.

### Tip

If you know a replacement is coming, it’s always faster to transfer shifts during the termination process rather than reassigning them one by one afterwards.
