# How can I swap shifts with a colleague on the same day?

## When trying to swap shifts with a colleague on the same day, you may find that the system does not allow for approval of the shift swap. This issue is usually caused by a setting that needs to be activated in order to successfully complete the swap.

To swap shifts with a colleague on the same day, you need to enable the option that requests a shift return. You can do this by:

1. Navigate to the shift list.
2. Select the shift you want to swap.
3. Activating the "Request Shift Return" option.
4. Confirm the swap.

The shift will now be open for your colleagues to take and offer you another shift the same day in return. When you approve the shift you get in return, your manager will be able to approve the swap.
