If you're encountering an error message about overlapping shifts when trying to create a new shift, despite seeing no apparent overlaps in your schedule, the issue likely stems from an incorrect "Day Change Time" setting.
What's happening?
The Day Change Time setting determines when one workday ends and the next begins in the system. If this setting is incorrect, the system can misinterpret which day a shift belongs to, leading to false overlap errors.
For example:
- If your Day Change Time is set to 8:00 AM
- And you try to create a shift for Saturday from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- The system will associate this shift with Friday
- If the employee already has a Friday shift, you'll get an overlap error
How to fix it:
- Go to the "Locations" section in Frontliners
- Find your location and click the "Edit" icon
- Look for the "Day Change Time" or "Turnover Time" setting in the top right corner of the screen
- Adjust this time to be earlier than your earliest possible shift start
- Click "Save" to apply the change
Choosing the right Day Change Time:
- Set it earlier than your earliest shift start time
- For many businesses, a time between 12:00 AM (midnight) and 4:00 AM works well
- Consider your latest ending shifts too, especially if they routinely go past midnight
Example: If your earliest shifts start at 5:00 AM, you might set the Day Change Time to 4:00 AM or earlier.
After making the change:
You should now be able to create shifts without encountering unexpected overlap errors. The system will correctly associate early morning shifts with their intended day.
